US court halts Trump administration’s calls for mass firings at agencies

A US court has declared large-scale layoffs of employees from government agencies, including the Ministry of Defense, possibly illegal.

According to foreign media, the California court stopped the Trump administration from firing employees.

A federal court judge has ordered the Office of Personnel Management to cancel orders issued to more than 20 institutions regarding the retrenchment of probationary government employees.

The judge said congress has empowered various agencies, including the Department of Defense, to recruit or fire employees. Therefore, the Office of Personnel Management does not have the authority to employ or fire the personnel of any other organization.

The US federal judge said that the dismissal of employees in various organizations is possibly illegal.

It should be noted that about 200,000 employees in the United States are probationary employees.

According to US media, thousands of probationary employees have already been laid off from various departments.

The labour union had urged a San Francisco court that the move against the employees was potentially illegal.
