South Africa beat England by 7 wickets to reach Champions Trophy semi-finals
South Africa secured their place in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 semi-finals after defeating England by seven wickets at the National Stadium, Karachi. With this victory, the tournament’s final four lineup is now complete.
Batting first, England struggled and were bowled out for 179 in 38.2 overs. Joe Root top-scored with 37, while Jofra Archer (25), Ben Duckett (24), and Jos Buttler (21) offered some resistance. South Africa’s bowling attack was led by Marco Jansen and Wiaan Mulder, who took three wickets each, while Keshav Maharaj claimed two.
In response, South Africa chased down the target comfortably in 29.1 overs, losing just three wickets. Rassie van der Dussen remained unbeaten on 72, smashing six fours and three sixes, while Heinrich Klaasen contributed 64 runs off 56 balls. Jofra Archer took two wickets, and Adil Rashid picked up one.
With this result, Afghanistan was eliminated from semi-final contention. Group A semi-finalists, India and New Zealand, had already qualified. The final group-stage match between India and Bangladesh in Dubai on Sunday will determine the semi-final matchups based on net run rate.
