UN strongly condemns terrorists attack on Jafar Express
United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has strongly condemned the hijacking of the Jafar Express in Pakistan’s Balochistan province and called for the immediate release of the hostages.
According to UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric, Guterres made it clear that attacks on civilians are unacceptable and that the international community should take steps to prevent such incidents.
Gunmen attacked the Jafar Express in Balochistan. The train was going from Quetta to Peshawar and had about 500 passengers on board. The attack was carried out between Gadalar and Perokondy, after which the train was derailed and captured.
Security forces have safely rescued 155 passengers from terrorists following the attack on Jaffar Express, security sources confirmed.
According to security officials, 27 terrorists have been eliminated so far in the ongoing operation while 17 injured individuals have been shifted to a hospital for medical treatment.
Security sources revealed that the terrorists are in contact with their foreign handlers via satellite phones.
In response, security forces have tightened the siege around the militants, who have split into smaller groups, and a clearance operation is underway to neutralize all threats.
