12 March, 2025 21:51

The Pakistan Army announced on Wednesday the successful completion of the Jaffar Express hostage-rescue operation, confirming that all attackers at the site were eliminated by security forces and the hostages were freed.

Speaking to a private news channel, Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (DG ISPR) Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry stated that the operation involved coordinated efforts from the Pakistan Air Force (PAF), Special Services Group (SSG), Army, and Frontier Corps (FC).

Lt Gen Chaudhry revealed that 33 terrorists were killed in the operation, adding that no harm came to any passengers during the clearance phase.

However, he confirmed that 21 passengers had been killed by the terrorists before the operation began.

Lt Gen Chaudhry further told that three FC personnel stationed on the railway picket were martyred, while one FC soldier was martyred during yesterday’s operation.

Providing details of the attack, the DG ISPR said that on March 11, terrorists targeted a railway track in Bolan, stopped the Jaffar Express, and took passengers hostage.

The militants reportedly used hostages, including women and children, as human shields. Additionally, suicide bombers were positioned among the captives but were neutralized by security forces’ snipers.

He further disclosed that the attackers were in contact with their handlers in Afghanistan. Following the successful operation, a bomb disposal squad was deployed to clear the train and surrounding area as per security protocols.

President, PM condemn attack

President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister have strongly condemned the terrorist attack on the Jaffar Express in Dhadar, Bolan Pass, and paid tribute to the security forces for their effective response.

President Zardari commended the bravery of security personnel for rescuing passengers and taking decisive action against terrorists.

He termed attacks on unarmed civilians and passengers as inhumane and deplorable, stating that those targeting innocent travelers go against the traditions of Balochistan.

Prime Minister also denounced the “cowardly” attack, reaffirming that security forces are dealing with terrorists with courage and professionalism.

He stated that the forces are pushing back the militants and will soon bring them to justice. The premier asserted that terrorists have no connection with Islam, Pakistan, or Balochistan and vowed to continue the fight against terrorism until its complete eradication.

He assured that every conspiracy to destabilize Pakistan would be thwarted, emphasizing that the nation stands united with security forces in the battle against terrorism.
