Syria beat Pakistan in Asian Cup qualifier match

26 March, 2025 10:28

Syria defeated Pakistan by 0-2 in the Asian Cup qualifiers to take the first place in Group E.

In the match played at Prince Abdullah bin Jalawi Stadium, Syria’s Omar al-Souma scored the first goal to give his team the lead, then Ahmad Faqa scored a goal in the second half to ensure victory.

The Stephen Constantine-led Pakistan football team suffered their first defeat at the hands of Syria in the Group E match of the AFC Asian Cup 2027 Qualifier.

After the defeat in the first match of Group E, the national team is in fourth place, while Syria has occupied the top position, as well as Myanmar and Afghanistan teams are in second and third place.

Syria’s next match will be against Afghanistan, while Pakistan will face Myanmar on June 11.

The two teams have met only once before in the 2006 Asian Games, with Syria winning 0-2.

Questions are being raised on coach Stephen Constantine’s strategy and selection of players, while the situation does not improve.
