Pakistan name squad for World Cup qualifier

The Pakistan women’s national selection committee has announced a 15-member squad for the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier to be held at Gaddafi Stadium and LCCA Ground in Lahore from April 9 to 19.

The squad has been selected after reviewing the fitness and form of the players in the preparation camp of the ongoing second phase by the selection committee, where the players participated in warm-up matches and practice sessions.

Fatima Sana, who has captained Pakistan in six T20Is and two ODIs, will continue to lead the side in the 50-over event while Shawal Zulfiqar returned to the national team after recovering from a shoulder injury, which she suffered during the tour of New Zealand in December 2023.

The Pakistan squad consists of these players. Fatima Sana (captain), Muneeba Ali (vice-captain), Aliya Riaz, Diana Baig, Gul Feroza, Najiba Alvi (wicketkeeper), Nashra Sandhu, Natalia Pervaiz, Umaima Sohail, Ramin Shamim, Sadia Iqbal, Shawal Zulfiqar. Sidra Amin. Sidra Nawaz (wicket-keeper) and Syeda Aroob Shah.

The six-team ICC event, which includes hosts Pakistan, Bangladesh, Ireland, Scotland, Thailand and West Indies, will consist of a single league round robin format. Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium and LCCA Ground will host 15 matches of this event.

Pakistan will face Ireland in the opening match at Gaddafi Stadium.

Pakistan matches (day matches will start at 9.30 am and day/night matches will start at 2 pm local time).

vs Ireland – April 9, Gaddafi Stadium (Day)

vs Scotland – April 11, LCCA Ground (Day)

vs West Indies – April 14, Gaddafi Stadium (Day Night).

vs Thailand – April 17, Gaddafi Stadium (Day Night)
