IMF allows govt to reduce power tariff

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has allowed Pakistan to reduce its electricity tariff by Re1 per unit.

The IMF said that all consumers will get Rs1 unit relief in electricity prices, this relief will be given from the revenue earned from the levy on captive power plants.

The International Monetary Fund said that a levy has been imposed on the use of gas by captive power plants, the government is also working on a relief package for electricity consumers.

A relief package in electricity prices will be announced with the approval of the IMF.

Sources said that the reduction in the price of electricity by one rupee per kilowatt will reduce the total burden of Rs100 billion on the consumers, the consumer who uses 500 units of electricity will reduce his bill by Rs500.

Two days ago, Pakistan and the IMF signed a staff-level agreement for a loan of $ 1.3 billion.
