Sami Khan Urges Viewers to Stop Romanticizing Toxic Bad Boy Characters in Dramas

04 May, 2025 15:27

Sami Khan, a seasoned actor with over 20 years in the industry, has consistently proven his talent across television and film. Following the success of his recent projects Faraar and Duniyapur, Sami sat down for a candid conversation about the evolving trends in Pakistani dramas and his thoughts on storytelling today.

One topic that came up was the increasing glorification of “bad boy” characters in popular dramas. Recently, audiences have shown overwhelming support for morally flawed characters like Shuja Asad in Khaie and Nameer Khan in Qarz-e-Jaan — often sympathizing with them more than the actual victims in the stories.

Addressing this trend, Sami offered a thoughtful perspective. Reflecting on his role in Inkaar, he noted how today’s viewers seem to admire forceful, even toxic approaches to love. “These days, people don’t want to win love — they want to snatch it,” he said. Sami believes the issue lies in how negative characters are increasingly glamorized.

Sami Khan emphasized that not all villains need a tragic backstory to justify their behavior — sometimes, people are just inherently harmful. “We should learn from these characters what not to do in life,” he added, encouraging viewers to reflect critically rather than romanticize such personalities.

Sami’s grounded take serves as a reminder that while complex characters are essential to storytelling, empathy should be reserved for those who truly deserve it.
