In the wake of the tragic Pahalgam attack, which claimed the lives of 26 tourists in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), the Bollywood film Abir Gulaal starring Vaani Kapoor and Pakistani actor Fawad Khan has come under intense scrutiny. The attack, which has escalated tensions between India and Pakistan, led to severe backlash from Indian hardliners.
Following the incident, Vaani Kapoor removed all posts related to the film from her Instagram account, including posters, teasers, and photos with Fawad Khan. While Kapoor did not personally delete the posts, it was reported that the production team took action to remove the content, as the posts were shared as part of an Instagram collaboration. This deletion automatically wiped them from Kapoor’s profile.
The film, a romantic drama directed by Aarti S Bagdi, was initially set for release on May 9. However, it now faces an uncertain future as the Indian government has reportedly denied permission for its release due to Fawad Khan’s involvement. Prior to the Pahalgam attack, the film also faced opposition from right-wing political groups in India, with the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) stating they would not allow it to be screened in the state.
In response to the attack, Fawad Khan condemned the violence, sharing his thoughts on Instagram: “Deeply saddened to hear the news of the heinous attack in Pahalgam. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims of this horrifying incident, and we pray for strength and healing for their families in this difficult time.”
