Drama Serial 'Parwarish' Ignites Debate Among Medical Aspirants Over MDCAT Result Scene
Parwarish, the latest trending drama, is gaining attention for its portrayal of Gen Z struggles and parent-child dynamics. While the show has been praised for its fresh approach and relatability, a recent storyline has sparked backlash among viewers—particularly medical aspirants.
In the show, characters Wali and Maya, played by Samar Jafri and Aina Asif, appear to clear the highly competitive MDCAT (Medical and Dental College Admission Test) with ease. Wali, in particular, is shown preparing for the exam in a single night and still passing—a portrayal that didn’t sit well with many viewers.
MDCAT is known to be one of the toughest entrance exams in Pakistan, with many students needing multiple attempts to qualify. This oversimplification struck a nerve with real-life aspirants. One viewer commented, “I am a repeater and trust me it is not this easy.”
Another scene shows Maya studying Grey’s Anatomy—a book typically used in medical college, not during pre-med prep. This, too, led to criticism. A user remarked, “Don’t think of the audience to be this stupid. Why is she studying an Anatomy book for her pre-medical exam?”
Others speculated that Wali may not have actually passed at all. They suggested Jehangir, a character with influence, may have used his contacts to get Wali in. “They are making fun of a medical aspirant’s journey,” one netizen stated, reflecting the frustration many felt about the unrealistic portrayal of the medical admission process in the drama serial Parwarish.
