NADRA introduce digital birth and death registration system in Pakistan

15 May, 2025 17:43

The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has introduced a digital system for registering births and deaths in hospitals and health centers across Pakistan.

To improve civil records, NADRA signed separate agreements with the Sindh and Balochistan governments. In Sindh, the agreement was signed by top officials from the Health Department, Local Government, and NADRA, with Minister Saeed Ghani also present.

NADRA is upgrading the way important life events are recorded by bringing in technology. Now, when a birth or death happens in a hospital, the details will be recorded digitally and sent directly to NADRA.

This means Pakistan’s national database will be more accurate and updated on time, helping the country make better plans for the future.

NADRA says the data will also support the government’s “Uraan Pakistan” program, which focuses on growing the digital economy. Projects like digital ID cards and other tech-based services will use this data.

With support from the World Bank, NADRA is also working on a Digital Economy Enhancement Project along with other national partners.

In addition, NADRA announced that first-time applicants for national ID cards (non-chip) can now get them free of cost.
