The electricity tariff is likely to go up by Rs1.27 per unit under the monthly Fuel Cost Adjustment (FCA) for April 2025.
The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) has formally submitted a petition to the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA), requesting a tariff increase of Rs1.27 per unit under the monthly FCA mechanism.
NEPRA is scheduled to hold a public hearing on the petition on May 29, after which a final decision will be announced.
According to the CPPA’s submitted data, a total of 10.513 billion units of electricity were generated across the country in April, with 10.196 billion units delivered to distribution companies.
The average cost of electricity generation during April was recorded at Rs. 8.94 per unit, while the reference cost stood at Rs. 7.68 per unit. This difference in cost has prompted the CPPA to request a fuel adjustment to account for the higher generation expenses.
The data also revealed the sources of electricity generation for April: hydropower contributed 21.94%, local coal 14.51%, imported coal 10.02%, furnace oil 0.97%, domestic natural gas 8.01%, imported LNG 20.52%, and nuclear energy 17.91%.
If the adjustment is approved, the revised rates will be reflected in consumers’ upcoming electricity bills, though lifeline and K-Electric customers will remain unaffected.
