Professional boxer Georgia O’Connor has tragically passed away at the age of 25, following a courageous battle with cancer. A talented athlete and beloved figure in the boxing community, her untimely death has left fans and fellow athletes in deep mourning.

Born in Durham, England, Georgia rose to prominence as a gifted amateur boxer. Her accomplishments include winning a gold medal at the 2017 Commonwealth Youth Games, along with podium finishes at both the Youth World Championships and European Championships. Her technical skill and determination made her one of the brightest young talents in British boxing.

Georgia transitioned to the professional ring in 2021, signing with Boxxer Promotions under Ben Shalom. She remained undefeated, winning all three of her professional bouts. Her career showed immense promise before being cut short by illness.

Earlier this year, Georgia publicly revealed that she had been diagnosed with cancer. She had previously struggled with ulcerative colitis, a chronic condition that affected her health and training. Despite these challenges, she remained resilient and optimistic, frequently sharing updates and messages of hope on social media.

Just two weeks before her passing, Georgia announced that she had married her longtime boyfriend, Adriano, and changed her last name to Cardinali. In an emotional post, she described him as her “superhero,” crediting him with providing love, care, and strength during her most difficult moments. Adriano reportedly left his job to be by her side and supported her through every step of her medical journey.

Tributes from across the sporting world have poured in. Fellow boxers like Jack Catterall, Molly McCann, and Chantelle Cameron paid their respects, remembering her as a fighter in and out of the ring. England Boxing also honoured her legacy, calling her a “gifted boxer and beloved member of the amateur community.”

Georgia O’Connor leaves behind a legacy of strength, talent, and compassion. Her story is a testament to courage, both in sport and in life.
