Breetzke reacts with wild kick after IPL debut dismissal
Breetzke wild kick
Matthew Breetzke finally made his much-anticipated IPL debut for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on Tuesday, May 27, in a match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow.
The South African batter had been benched for the first 13 games of the season, with Aiden Markram and Mitchell Marsh forming a reliable opening pair. However, for LSG’s final match of the season, Breetzke replaced compatriot Markram in the playing eleven.
Breetzke started confidently, hitting a boundary in the first over and following it up with a six over long-on off Krunal Pandya in the second over, signaling his aggressive intent. The 25-year-old right-hander looked in good touch and eager to make the most of his opportunity.
Unfortunately, his promising start was cut short in the third over, when Sri Lankan pacer Nuwan Thushara bowled him out. Attempting a yorker, Thushara delivered a low full-toss that unexpectedly swung away. Breetzke missed the shot completely, and the ball crashed into his stumps.
Visibly frustrated with his dismissal, especially after falling to a full-toss, Breetzke expressed his anger with a sharp kick into the air. His brief innings left fans wondering what could have been, had he settled in.
Despite the early dismissal, Breetzke’s intent and clean striking in his short stay offered a glimpse of his potential and what he can bring to the LSG batting lineup in the future.
