A moderate earthquake with a magnitude of 4.4 struck Zhob and nearby areas in Balochistan on Thursday.
According to the Seismological Center, the tremors originated southeast of Zhob at a depth of 40 kilometers. The sudden quake prompted panic among residents, many of whom rushed out of their homes while reciting “Kalma-e-Tayyaba.” Fortunately, no casualties or property damage have been reported from any part of Khuzdar so far.
This seismic event comes shortly after similar activity was recorded across other parts of Pakistan. On May 18, a 4.7 magnitude earthquake rattled Swat and its adjoining areas.
The National Seismological Centre noted the tremors were centered in the Hindukush Mountain range at a depth of 205 kilometers, a region known for frequent seismic activity. Several localities in Swat, including Mingora and its outskirts, experienced the tremors, although no damage was reported.
Earlier, on May 12, another earthquake measuring 4.9 on the Richter scale hit Quetta, the capital of Balochistan. The National Seismic Monitoring Centre confirmed the quake’s epicenter was west of Quetta and affected the city and its surrounding areas.
Despite the recent series of tremors, authorities have not reported any serious damage or loss of life, but remain on alert in case of aftershocks.
