The Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) continues to use the Proxy Means Test (PMT) score system to determine who is eligible for financial assistance. Closely linked with the 8171 Ehsaas Program, this score is based on various household indicators, helping the government target support to low-income families.
What is a PMT Score?
The PMT score reflects a family’s economic standing. “The PMT score is a number that shows how poor or well-off a family is. It is used to decide who should get help from the government.”
Key elements that influence this score include monthly earnings, family size, property condition, ownership of assets such as vehicles or land, and the education and employment status of household members.
PMT Score Brackets for June 2025:
- 0 to 32: Eligible for BISP support
- 33 to 40: May be eligible based on specific circumstances
- Above 40: Ineligible for financial aid
Special note: “Widows, disabled persons, and transgender people may still qualify with a PMT score of up to 37.”
How to Check Your PMT Score
You can verify your PMT score through three methods:
- Online via the 8171 BISP Portal – Enter your CNIC and captcha to view your score.
- SMS Service – “Type your CNIC (without dashes) in a new SMS. Send it to 8171. You’ll get a reply with your PMT score and eligibility.”
- In-Person – Visit a nearby BISP or NADRA office with your CNIC to request an update or check your score.
If Your PMT Score Is Too High
Ineligible applicants can request reassessment by updating household information at BISP centers and submitting documents showing changed circumstances, like income loss or disability.
