President Asif Ali Zardari Calls for Global Climate Justice on World Environment Day

05 June, 2025 12:38

On World Environment Day, President Asif Ali Zardari gave a strong message about the urgent need for action on climate change. He said that Pakistan is one of the most climate-vulnerable countries, even though it contributes less than 1% to global carbon emissions.

In a statement released by the President House, Zardari reminded the public and the world that this day should make us think about our duty to protect the planet. He said that Pakistan, despite its limited resources, is working hard to deal with floods, droughts, and heatwaves that affect millions every year.

President Zardari pointed out that climate injustice is real. He said it is unfair that countries like Pakistan suffer the worst effects even though they pollute the least. He called for international support and fair climate funding to help developing countries like Pakistan cope with the crisis.

The President linked Pakistan’s climate goals to its economic transformation plan known as ‘Uraan Pakistan’. He said that fighting climate change is not just about policy, it is a shared national duty.

President Zardari asked every citizen and organization to play their part. He said we must:

  • Use less plastic

  • Plant more trees

  • Recycle regularly

  • Support green policies

These small actions can help create a cleaner and greener Pakistan, he said.

He also asked the global community for stronger cooperation and climate finance to help Pakistan build climate resilience. He said the world must work together to protect biodiversity, use natural resources wisely, and limit the damage from extreme weather.
