June 12, 2025 (Thursday) – A tragic air accident took place near Ahmedabad Airport in Gujarat. An Air India plane, preparing to take off for London Gatwick, crashed in the Meghaninagar area, just minutes after starting its journey.
According to early reports, the aircraft was a Boeing 787 Dreamliner, believed to be around 11 years old. The crash happened around 1:45 PM, and the plane was identified as Flight AI171.
What Happened?
Soon after takeoff, the plane lost control and went down in Meghaninagar. This is a heavily populated residential area, located about 15 kilometers from the airport. Eyewitnesses saw thick black smoke rising in the sky.
Within minutes, seven fire brigade vehicles arrived. Firefighting and rescue work began immediately. The local fire department, police, and rescue teams reached the area to control the situation.

Video Footage Surfaces
Videos of the crash site have gone viral on social media. They show large clouds of smoke and burning debris spread across the area. Some videos were taken by locals who rushed out of their homes after hearing a loud explosion.
Smoke was also seen coming from the Dhalpur area, which is close to Meghaninagar. The cause of the crash is still not officially confirmed.
Over 240 Onboard
The aircraft had more than 240 people on board. This includes passengers and crew members. So far, there is no confirmed information on the number of injuries or deaths.
The local administration is on high alert. Two teams from the BSF (Border Security Force) and NDRF (National Disaster Response Force) are also being sent to help with rescue and relief.
Air India’s First Statement
Air India posted a statement on X (formerly Twitter): “Flight AI171, operating Ahmedabad-London Gatwick, was involved in an incident today, 12 June 2025. At this moment, we are ascertaining the details and will share further updates at the earliest on http://airindia.com and on our X handle.”
