Petrol Prices to Increase Up to Rs5 in Pakistan Amid Israel-Iran Tensions
Petrol rates likely to rise again as govt plans new levy
Amid escalating tensions between Israel and Iran, fears of a hike in petrol prices have emerged in Pakistan. An increase of up to Rs. 5 per liter in petrol and diesel prices is being anticipated due to the volatile international situation.
According to sources, an initial working paper has been prepared outlining proposed changes in petroleum prices, set to take effect from June 16. The draft suggests raising the price of petrol by Rs. 1.12 per liter and diesel by Rs. 5.27 per liter. Additionally, a recommendation has been made to increase the price of kerosene oil by Rs. 4.13 per liter.
Officials have confirmed that the final decision on the revised prices will be taken by the Ministry of Finance, subject to approval from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
The potential price adjustment comes in the wake of recent hostilities between Israel and Iran. Israel reportedly launched strikes targeting Iranian military installations and key personnel. In retaliation, Iran responded with rocket attacks. The international community has voiced concern over the escalating conflict and urged both nations to show restraint.
