US Shifts 20,000 Missiles, Defense Systems to Middle East Amid Rising Tensions with Iran
In a major strategic shift, the US has redirected approximately 20,000 missiles and defense systems from Ukraine to the Middle East in response to escalating threats from Iran during its ongoing conflict with Israel.
The move, confirmed by US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, underscores Washington’s growing focus on protecting its assets and allies in the region.
“All resources are being used to protect our people in the region,” Hegseth stated, highlighting the urgency behind the redeployment. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky also acknowledged the transfer, confirming that missiles previously allocated to Ukraine have been redirected to the Middle East.
The United Kingdom has followed suit, announcing the deployment of military aircraft to the region. Prime Minister Keir Starmer, speaking before his departure to the G7 Summit in Canada, emphasized the need for immediate action in light of the deteriorating security environment.
“We are repositioning military assets, including aircraft, in response to the regional instability. I will always make the right decisions in Britain’s interest,” Starmer stated.
The UK’s move comes shortly after a serious maritime standoff between Iranian forces and a British spy warship. According to Iranian sources, the vessel had entered the northern Indian Ocean on an intelligence mission allegedly intended to assist Israeli missile strikes. Iranian naval drones reportedly intercepted the ship and issued a warning, prompting the vessel to retreat.
Iranian officials claimed the interception as a successful effort to thwart foreign intelligence operations near the Persian Gulf. The incident has heightened concerns over the potential for a wider regional conflict, and has reignited debate over Britain’s role in Middle Eastern military engagements.
Both the US and UK actions reflect growing alarm among Western allies over Iran’s activities and the broader implications for stability in the region.
