Scott McCormick and Helena Boshwick Slam Ryanair After Seat Row Ends in £100 Loss and Viral Clapback

19 June, 2025 15:29

Fitness couple Scott McCormick and Helena Boshwick say they’ll “never fly Ryanair again” after their attempt to save on seat reservations cost them their seats—and led to a four-hour delay and an extra £100 out of pocket.

The couple were flying from Birmingham Airport to Palma de Mallorca on May 1 for a gym mentorship event and holiday. They opted not to pre-book seats, a move that backfired when they were told there was only one seat left on the flight once boarding finished.

Scott, 33, told media: “We were first at the gate, had our boarding passes scanned, and were told to step aside. Then came the shock—only one seat was left.”

Money-Saving Plan Goes Wrong

The pair were told one could fly and the other would need to take the next available flight. When they refused to be split up, Ryanair reportedly promised they could take the next flight together and be fully refunded.

But Scott claims that didn’t happen.

“Only one of our tickets was marked for refund,” he explained. “They called the other a missed flight. We had to pay another £100 and wait four hours.”

Accusations of Discrimination

Scott believes they were unfairly singled out.

“Is it because we’re young? No kids? I don’t get it. There was no compassion at all,” he said. “We were in tears, and they didn’t even blink.”

The experience left him furious.

“I haven’t formally complained. I just want people to know how badly we were treated. We got caught in Ryanair’s system.”

Ryanair Hits Back… with a Meme

Ryanair responded in classic fashion—via a cheeky social media post that’s gone viral.

“Today is a good day to separate couples onboard,” the airline posted.

With over 37,000 likes, users loved the savage humor.
One commented: “Next time we want to break up, we’ll just fly Ryanair.”

Another joked: “Why stop there? Put them on different planes!

Refund Still Missing

Scott says they’ve yet to receive any of the promised refund.

“They said it would be handled at ticket sales. I asked for something in writing, but nothing ever came. Just silence.”

Despite the backlash, Ryanair has not publicly apologized.
