Public holiday announced on June 29

Govt Announces Public Holiday on 1st Muharram
The Sultanate of Oman has officially declared Sunday, June 29, 2025, as a public holiday for both public and private sector employees in celebration of the Islamic New Year 1447 AH.
This announcement was made by the Ministry of Labour through an official statement issued on Monday. The ministry emphasized that the holiday is meant to allow the people of Oman to observe the beginning of the Hijri year in a spirit of unity, peace, and religious devotion.
The public holiday applies equally to government and private institutions, giving all workers an equal opportunity to participate in the spiritual observance of Muharram 1, the first day of the Islamic calendar.
However, the Ministry of Labour clarified that institutions involved in essential services, such as healthcare, transportation, airports, and security, may continue operations on the holiday. In such cases, employees must be compensated financially, and mutual agreement is required for any staff required to work.
The official date for Muharram 1, 1447 AH will be confirmed after the moon sighting, which will be announced by the concerned religious authorities in Oman.
Meanwhile, the United Arab Emirates had already declared Friday, June 27, as a public holiday for the same occasion, aligning the region in celebration of the new Hijri year.
