Liam Byrne Death: British Wingsuit Champion Dies in Swiss Alps Accident

Liam Byrne, a 24-year-old wingsuit flying champion from Stonehaven, Aberdeenshire, has died after a tragic accident in the Swiss Alps, his parents have confirmed.

Liam was critically injured during a wingsuit jump from Gitschen mountain in Switzerland. He passed away shortly after the fall on Saturday.

In a heartfelt statement shared with BBC Scotland, his parents said: “We want to remember Liam not just for the way he died, but for how he lived. He was fearless—not because he wasn’t scared, but because he never let fear stop him.”

They described him as someone who chased life with passion and inspired many people.

Liam recently featured in the BBC documentary “The Boy Who Can Fly”, which followed his incredible journey in the world of extreme sports. The film captured how the young Scotsman defied gravity and broke expectations.

He was one of the youngest elite BASE jumpers in the world and a British champion in performance wingsuit flying.
