Travelers on the Eurostar faced severe delays and overnight chaos on Sunday, July 14, after two tragic incidents caused major disruptions on the high-speed route between London and Paris.
Two people were killed by separate trains between Lille and Paris, leading to the cancellation of multiple services in both directions between London St Pancras International and Gare du Nord.
Passengers reported being stuck for up to eight hours inside trains, with no food or clear communication. Some were left stranded in Paris at midnight, struggling to find a place to sleep.
Stranded and Frustrated: What Passengers Faced
One passenger, Rebecca del Tufo, posted on social media: “Utterly appalling service from Eurostar, abandoning passengers at midnight in Paris with nowhere to stay. Shocking.”
Another traveler wrote: “3pm check-in, sit on the train for nearly six hours (all food runs out), finally go back to Gare du Nord and 1,000 passengers dumped in Paris with no hotels. Cheapest room €2000 and they refund only up to €300. Disastrous.”
Monday Brings More Trouble
The situation did not improve by Monday morning, with more train cancellations and delays. Eurostar warned of “difficult travel conditions” for the rest of the day, as trains are overcrowded with passengers from canceled trips.
A statement from the company read: “You can expect delays, and some trains will be cancelled because some trainsets never made it to their destination. Trains will also be crowded with passengers from all the cancelled trains yesterday.”
Travelers Advised to Prepare for Delays
Eurostar has apologized for the disruption but says the impact may last through the day. Passengers are urged to check the Eurostar website or app for updates before traveling and to be prepared for limited onboard food and long waiting times.
