ICC Introduces New Wide Ball Rule in ODI, T20 Formats
The International Cricket Council (ICC) is set to trial a new interpretation of the wide ball rule in ODI and T20 formats.
As per the ICC’s press release, the wide ball will now be judged based on the batter’s position at the moment the ball is delivered, even if the batter moves toward the off side afterward.
This adjustment is also intended to assist umpires in making more accurate leg-side wide calls. To support this, the protected area marker will be extended up to the popping crease, making decisions easier.
The rule tweak is aimed at addressing the increasing number of wide deliveries caused by batters changing positions, offering bowlers a fairer chance in such scenarios.
