Russia becomes the first country to officially recognize the Afghan Taliban government.
According to Russian news agencies, Russia has accepted the credentials of Afghanistan’s new ambassador.
Afghan Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi met with Russian Ambassador Dmitry Zhirnov, during which the Russian envoy formally conveyed his government’s official decision.
This is being described as a historic step towards strengthening relations between Afghanistan and Russia.
The Afghan Foreign Minister welcomed the decision by the Russian Federation, calling it the beginning of a new phase of positive relations, mutual respect, and constructive cooperation between the two nations.
Amir Khan Muttaqi stated that the decision by the Russian Federation will be remembered as a significant development, and that bilateral cooperation between the two countries will further expand.
