The National Cybercrime Investigation Agency has registered cases against well-known YouTubers Aftab Iqbal and Falak Javed, accusing them of running negative propaganda and defamatory campaigns targeting state institutions on social media platforms.
A case against Aftab Iqbal has been lodged under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) along with other relevant penal provisions. The First Information Report (FIR) was registered in the FIA Lahore Zone on the complaint of the government. Authorities allege that during a period of heightened tension between Pakistan and India, Iqbal disseminated content on social media that allegedly harmed national security and undermined the state’s official narrative.
Separately, a new case has also been registered against YouTuber Falak Javed by the Cybercrime Agency. She faces similar charges under the PECA Act. According to officials, Javed allegedly ran a continuous campaign on social media that was defamatory and negatively targeted state institutions.
Officials stated that these actions come in the context of the country’s sensitive environment and the spread of misleading information online. The cases are aimed at safeguarding the dignity of state institutions and national security.
The FIA further confirmed that the investigation is being expanded based on additional evidence, and strict legal action will be taken against all individuals found involved in such activities.
