Punjab adds another class to board exam list

12 July, 2025 18:20

The Punjab government has decided to bring back board exams for eighth-grade students across the province.

Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat announced the decision during a meeting of the PECTA (Punjab Education Curriculum Training and Assessment Authority) Board of Governors. He said that PECTA will conduct the Grade 8 exams and an action plan for this will be ready within 30 days.

The minister also instructed education authorities to start internal assessment tests for students of Classes 5 to 7. These tests will use a fair system to evaluate both students and teachers, and the process for these assessments must be developed within a month.

To promote digital learning, the government is considering converting Matric Tech (Grades 9 and 11) textbooks into video format. A special academic committee has been given the task to ensure these educational videos are of high quality.

Rana Sikandar Hayat also stressed the need to print and deliver textbooks on time for the upcoming academic year, warning that any delays would not be accepted. He highlighted the importance of reducing dropout rates in middle school and improving teacher training based on their previous results.
