Monsoon Havoc Continues: Rain Hits Twin Cities, Chakwal Issues Alert, Gilgit Flooded, Army Deployed

Monsoon rains persist in various parts of the country, including the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi. According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department, the wet weather is expected to continue over the next few days, with both heavy and light showers forecast in different areas.

The recent spell of monsoon rains has claimed 221 lives nationwide due to various rain-related incidents.

In Rawalpindi, the heavy rainfall that had paused resumed on Tuesday morning. The highest recorded rainfall in the city was 54 millimeters at Kachehri. In response, a rain emergency has been declared, and WASA officials have been placed on high alert due to the potential rise in the water level of Nullah Lai.

Narowal also witnessed heavy rainfall early in the morning, turning streets, markets, and roads into streams.

In Chakwal, the district administration issued an alert due to the threat of torrential rains, and public announcements are being made through local mosques to keep residents informed.

According to the Meteorological Department, rain accompanied by thunder and lightning is expected on Tuesday in Kashmir, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Islamabad, Punjab, and Gilgit-Baltistan. The department has also warned of possible landslides in mountainous regions and flooding in rivers and streams.

Pakistan Army Rescue Operation

The Pakistan Army’s rescue operation to save tourists stranded in Deosai is progressing successfully. The Army is also accelerating the restoration work on the Skardu Road. The rescue operation is being carried out with strong support from Army pilots and engineering teams.

The landslide-affected area from Skardu to Sudpara Mountaineering School has been cleared. The road from Deosai to Sudpara village has also been reopened. Army personnel are working to clear the remaining landslides.

Military teams are providing emergency rations and aid to tourists at the affected locations. Additionally, 150 ready-to-eat meal packets are being airlifted by helicopter.
