Trump Pushes for Ceasefire Amid Thailand-Cambodia War

Trump announces extra 25% tariff on India over Russian oil purchase, total levy now at 50%
US President Donald Trump recalled the India-Pakistan ceasefire while addressing the ongoing conflict between Thailand and Cambodia.
US President Donald Trump stated on his Truth Social media platform that he had recently spoken with the Prime Minister of Cambodia regarding efforts to stop the war with Thailand. He mentioned that he was in the process of calling the Acting Prime Minister of Thailand to similarly urge a ceasefire and an end to the ongoing conflict.
He explained that the United States was simultaneously engaged in trade negotiations with both countries. However, he made it clear that the US would not proceed with any agreements while the two nations were at war. He emphasized that this stance had been communicated unambiguously to both sides.
Trump noted that a call with Thailand was scheduled to take place shortly, while the conversation with Cambodia had already concluded. He said that once Thailand responded with its position, further contact would be made to press for a ceasefire and the cessation of hostilities.
He remarked that he was attempting to simplify a complex situation and expressed concern over the loss of life resulting from the conflict. This situation, he said, reminded him of the past conflict between Pakistan and India, which was eventually resolved successfully.
Later, Trump provided an update stating that he had spoken with the Acting Prime Minister of Thailand and described the discussion as very positive. According to him, Thailand, like Cambodia, was also in favor of an immediate ceasefire and peace. He planned to relay this message back to the Cambodian leadership.
Following talks with both countries, Trump observed that a natural path toward peace, ceasefire, and prosperity appeared to be taking shape. He indicated that further clarity would emerge soon.
In another statement, Trump said he had a constructive phone call with the Prime Minister of Cambodia, during which he informed him about the dialogue with Thai leadership. He said both countries were seeking immediate peace and were interested in resuming trade talks with the US However, he reiterated that such steps would only be appropriate once the fighting had ended.
Trump stated that both sides had agreed to an urgent meeting and to work toward an immediate ceasefire. He added that they had also expressed willingness to move toward lasting peace. He said that it had been an honor for him to assist in the resolution of matters between the two nations and praised their rich and ancient histories and cultures. He expressed hope that both countries would maintain strong bilateral relations in the coming years.
He concluded by expressing his intention to finalize trade agreements with both countries once peace was fully restored.
