Petrol and diesel levy increased by Rs2.5 per liter

The government has increased the levy on petrol and diesel by Rs 2.5 per liter. In addition, the freight margin (transport cost) on diesel has gone up by 20 paisa per liter, according to media reports on Saturday.

Sources say that the levy on diesel is now Rs 77.01 per liter, up from Rs 74.51. The freight margin on diesel has also increased to Rs 6.24 per liter.

For petrol, the levy has been raised from Rs 75.52 to Rs 78.2 per liter. However, the climate support levy on both petrol and diesel remains unchanged at Rs 2.50 per liter.

The government is also charging a dealer margin of Rs 8.64 per liter and a distributor margin of Rs 7.87 per liter on both petrol and diesel. There is still no sales tax being applied on these fuels.

In total, the government is collecting around Rs 100 per liter in taxes and other charges on petroleum products.

It’s worth mentioning that earlier, the government had reduced petrol prices by more than Rs 7 for the current fortnight.
