Water Shortage Deepens Gaza’s Humanitarian Crisis After Food Scarcity

04 August, 2025 13:30

Following months of brutal airstrikes, mass displacement, and widespread hunger, residents of Gaza are now facing an intensifying water crisis, according to a report by international news agency AFP.

The report highlights that while water tankers occasionally reach some areas, and NGOs manage to distribute limited supplies to a few fortunate individuals, the aid is far from sufficient to meet the growing needs of the population.

At the onset of the war, Israel cut off Gaza’s water supply. Although some supply lines in northern Gaza were later reconnected to the Israeli water company Mekorot, residents report that water is still not reaching their homes.

Asim Al-Nabeeh, spokesperson for Gaza City, confirmed that the part of the municipality’s water network connected to Mekorot has been non-operational for nearly two weeks, resulting in a complete halt in water supply.

Local officials attributed the disruption to widespread damage caused by the ongoing conflict, which has destroyed several key pipelines within Gaza’s water distribution network.

The worsening water shortage has further compounded the already dire humanitarian situation for Gaza’s residents.
