Talal Chaudhry Briefs National Assembly on Pilgrim Travel Plans

11 August, 2025 19:59

Islamabad: Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry responded to a call-attention notice in the National Assembly regarding the facilitation of pilgrims traveling to Iran and Iraq.

He stated that most pilgrims take the Quetta–Taftan route for visiting holy sites in Iran and Iraq, and assured that this route will never be permanently closed.

Talal Chaudhry clarified that the recent restrictions were imposed purely for security reasons. The matter was discussed both in the National Assembly and during negotiations with religious organizations. He said that the Shia Ulema Council and Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen had provided six names for coordination purposes, and negotiations were held with both groups to address their concerns.

On the instructions of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, additional airline services were launched to accommodate pilgrims. For those who cannot afford air travel, subsidized flights are being arranged. The minister announced that it has been decided to ensure all pilgrims reach Karbala before 28 Safar.
