ATC Orders Immediate Release of PTI Leader Shah Mehmood Qureshi

LAHORE: The Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) has directed jail authorities to release Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Shah Mehmood Qureshi following his acquittal in two cases linked to the May 9 riots.

ATC Judge Manzar Ali Gull issued a letter to the superintendent of the jail, instructing the immediate release of Qureshi, provided he is not wanted in any other case.

Qureshi was acquitted by the ATC on Monday in two separate cases related to the May 9 riots. In the same proceedings, several other PTI leaders and party workers were sentenced.

In a separate development, an ATC in Faisalabad had earlier acquitted Qureshi in another May 9-related case. He has also secured bail in some other pending cases; however, it remains unclear whether he is still wanted in any other case for which bail has not been granted.

Meanwhile, the ATC has ordered the confiscation of properties belonging to several PTI leaders who were convicted in the May 9 cases.

Sources indicate that Qureshi will be released today if no further charges are pending against him.
