Who Is Winning The War 2 vs Coolie Advance Booking Fight?

Who Is Winning The War 2 vs Coolie Advance Booking Fight?
The box office is heating up with two of the biggest action films of the year set to clash on August 14. On one side, we have Coolie, starring the legendary Rajinikanth. On the other side, there’s War 2, featuring the powerful duo of Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR. Both films are high-budget action entertainers and backed by big production houses.
Advance bookings have already started, and the early numbers show a clear lead for Rajinikanth’s Coolie.
Coolie Takes the Lead in Advance Bookings
According to trade sources and data from Sacnilk, Coolie has made a thunderous start. As of Tuesday morning (August 12), it has collected approximately ₹26.28 crore in advance ticket sales across India.
Here’s the language-wise breakdown:
Tamil: ₹18.89 crore
Hindi: ₹5.05 crore
Telugu: ₹1.55 crore
Kannada: ₹79.9 lakh
This strong booking performance shows that the film is receiving massive support from Tamil-speaking audiences. However, its bookings in Hindi and Telugu regions are also growing.
Coolie’s International Response Is Record-Breaking
Coolie is not only doing well in India but is also creating waves overseas. In North America, the film has already crossed $2 million (₹16.6 crore) in pre-sales. This makes it the first Tamil film to hit this milestone even before its official release.
This global response proves Rajinikanth’s massive popularity and the excitement for his 171st film.
War 2 Still Behind in the Race
On the other side, War 2 is slowly picking up pace. So far, the film has earned around ₹8.67 crore in India from advance bookings. It’s doing better in Hindi-speaking states and metros but is clearly behind Coolie, especially in southern states.
Breakdown as per trade experts:
War 2’s Hindi market is decent but not spectacular
Telugu bookings are expected to open today and might change the game
International pre-sales are weaker, with early reports suggesting under $400,000 in the US
What Do Trade Experts Say?
Two leading trade analysts have shared their views:
Taran Adarsh told NDTV: “Coolie has clearly taken a big, big lead across the globe. Talk about international sales or domestic sales, the margin is huge. War 2 hasn’t shown the kind of figures expected from a big event film. Telugu bookings may help later.”
Komal Nahta had a slightly different view: “Coolie is leading in the South. But War 2 is performing better in the rest of India. The clash is interesting and balanced in some areas.”
