Five Policemen Martyred in Multiple Terrorist Attacks Across KP

At least five policemen were martyred and five others injured when terrorists launched coordinated attacks in different parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) late Wednesday night.

According to police, unidentified militants targeted law enforcement officials in Upper Dir, Lower Dir, and Peshawar.

Multiple Attacks in One Night

In Upper Dir, terrorists attacked a police mobile van, killing three policemen and injuring three others.

Militants also attacked the Hassan Khel Police Station near Peshawar and two security checkposts. Police said they repelled the assaults, but one officer was martyred and another injured in the police station attack.

In Lower Dir’s Lajbok area, a constable lost his life when terrorists opened fire on a checkpost.

Background of Rising Violence

Earlier this week, the government decided to take action against militants in Bajaur and Khyber districts after peace talks with the Bajaur Amn Jirga failed.

Tribal elders had demanded the removal of militants from the region. Officials estimate there are around 300 terrorists in two areas of Tehsil Mamund in Bajaur and more than 350 in Khyber district.

Pakistan has seen a sharp rise in terror incidents since 2021, especially in KP and Balochistan.

A Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS) report stated that in June alone, there were 78 terrorist attacks nationwide, causing at least 100 deaths.
