Govt announces one-week school holidays in Karachi?

Karachi schools closed tomorrow amid heavy rains and flood threat
KARACHI – After heavy rains lashed the city earlier this week, social media was flooded with posts claiming that the Sindh Education Department had announced a week-long closure of schools across Karachi and other parts of the province. However, an official clarification has confirmed that these reports are false and misleading.
Viral Notification Sparks Confusion
A notification, widely shared online, suggested that schools in Sindh would remain closed for an entire week due to the deteriorating weather conditions. Some posts also claimed that the holidays were limited to three days — Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. The news quickly spread, causing confusion among parents, teachers, and students.
Official Clarification from Sindh Education Department
Fact-checking investigations have revealed that the viral notification was fake. The Sindh School Education Department categorically denied issuing any such announcement about a week-long shutdown of schools.
Officials clarified that only Wednesday was initially declared a holiday after the city witnessed heavy rainfall. Later, as weather conditions worsened, the department issued another notification, declaring Thursday a holiday as well — but strictly for one day.
Reality vs. Fake Reports
In reality, schools were closed for two days only, not for a full week. The fake circular circulating on social media misled the public and created unnecessary panic.
The claim of a week-long school holiday in Karachi following heavy rainfall has been proven false. The Sindh Education Department has confirmed that schools were officially closed only on Wednesday and Thursday.
Parents and students are advised to rely only on verified updates from the department and avoid sharing unverified posts on social media.
