Dera Ismail Khan witnessed devastation on Saturday night when a powerful windstorm, accompanied by heavy rain, left at least eight people dead — including women and children — and 50 others injured.
According to Rescue 1122, the storm struck between Saturday and Sunday night, bringing winds that reached speeds of up to 100 kilometers per hour, as recorded by the Meteorological Department. The fierce gusts uprooted trees, blocking roads and disrupting traffic, while solar panels installed on rooftops were blown away.
Power supply to Dera Ismail Khan, Tank, South Waziristan, and Kulachi was suspended after the storm severely damaged the electricity transmission system, PESCO officials confirmed.
Rescue 1122 reported that multiple accidents occurred during the storm, resulting in casualties. Acting on the instructions of District Emergency Officer Engineer Fasihullah, rescue teams immediately launched operations. The injured were provided first aid before being shifted to nearby hospitals, while debris was cleared from the accident sites. Teams remained engaged throughout the night, extending assistance to affected residents.
In a separate incident in Mardan, a roof collapse caused by rain left one person dead and two others injured. The deceased and injured were taken to THQ Hospital.
Heavy rain also wreaked havoc in Lakki Marwat, where water entered homes in several areas. In Sarai Naurang, two boundary walls collapsed after water inundated houses, though 10 people trapped inside were successfully rescued. Rescue officials further reported multiple wall collapses across the district, along with damage to solar panels in several areas.
