PM Distributes E-Bikes to Students Under EV Policy
Islamabad: As part of the government’s eco-friendly initiatives, Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz announced the distribution of electric bikes (e-bikes) to students on merit across the country. He said this step would help reduce carbon emissions while supporting young people in education.
PM Sharif has said that Pakistan suffered economic losses worth $30 billion in the 2022 floods, caused by cloudbursts, flash floods, and river overflows. He stressed that Pakistan cannot tackle climate challenges alone and needs global cooperation to overcome the impacts of climate change.
The Prime Minister highlighted that Pakistan has a very small share in global greenhouse gas emissions, yet it remains one of the countries most severely affected by climate change. He added that Pakistan’s new environment-friendly policies are a step toward building resilience against future disasters.
Expressing gratitude, PM Shehbaz thanked all stakeholders, including the UK government, for assisting Pakistan in climate policy-making.
The Prime Minister further stated that an additional 10% quota has been reserved for students from Balochistan to ensure equal opportunities. The Electric Vehicle (EV) policy, he said, will play a vital role in controlling the effects of climate change while promoting clean energy solutions.
E-bikes have already been distributed to students who have shown outstanding academic performance nationwide, reflecting the government’s commitment to empowering the youth through green initiatives.
