Is PTA Going to Ban Temu in Pakistan? Check Update

PTA revised charges for Radio-Based Services
Islamabad, Thursday, August 28, 2025 – The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has received a formal complaint about the popular e-commerce app Temu. The case was forwarded by the Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP) after it was approached by local trade groups.
The Pakistan Retail Business Council (PRBC) and the Chain Store Association of Pakistan (CAP) both raised objections. They claimed that Temu is operating without proper approval. They also warned that the platform is putting local businesses at risk by offering cheaper products online.
The complaint also included Shein, another global shopping app. According to PRBC, both platforms are working in Pakistan without regulation. They urged the government to restrict Temu’s services before it causes serious losses to domestic sellers.
The CCP responded by saying that blocking or banning mobile apps does not fall under its power. It stated that only the PTA has the authority to regulate access to such platforms under current laws.
The CCP forwarded the matter to PTA with instructions to review and take necessary steps. This means the final decision about a possible Temu ban in Pakistan now lies with the PTA. Officials will assess whether the app should be blocked or allowed to continue operations.
For now, Temu remains active in Pakistan, but uncertainty continues for both consumers and retailers.
