Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson Set for First England Call-Up

29 August, 2025 14:42

August 29, 2025 – Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson is set to receive his first senior England call-up for next month’s World Cup qualifiers.

The 22-year-old impressed during the Under-21 European Championship this summer, where England lifted the trophy. Head coach Thomas Tuchel watched Anderson live last weekend in Forest’s 1-1 draw against Crystal Palace. Tuchel will announce his squad later today for the fixtures against Andorra and Serbia.

Anderson has represented both England and Scotland at youth level. In 2023, he was called into the Scotland senior squad but withdrew through injury. Since 2024, he has been a regular in England’s Under-21 side.

The midfielder joined Nottingham Forest from Newcastle United in June 2024. He quickly became a key player as Forest qualified for Europe for the first time in 30 years. Last season, Anderson made 37 Premier League appearances, scoring six goals and providing two assists. This season, he has already impressed with a strong assist in Forest’s opening win against Brentford.

Tuchel has so far relied on Declan Rice, Jude Bellingham, Curtis Jones, Jordan Henderson, and Conor Gallagher in midfield. But Anderson’s form has now pushed him into contention.

England will play Andorra at Villa Park on September 6, followed by a trip to Belgrade to face Serbia on September 9. Tuchel’s men currently top Group K, having won all three of their opening qualifiers.

‘He Has Earned This Chance’

Nottingham Forest insiders believe Anderson is ready for international football. Many at the club, including the manager, see him and Morgan Gibbs-White as future leaders of the England midfield.

Anderson, who grew up highly rated at Newcastle, has exceeded expectations at Forest. Originally signed to play wider midfield, he has developed into their most complete central player. Coaches describe him as dynamic, composed on the ball, and hungry for possession.

His rise has been rapid, and now, with his first England call-up, Anderson has the opportunity to show his quality on the world stage.
