NADRA Shuts Down Service Centers After Flooding in Punjab

29 August, 2025 22:03

Lahore: The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has announced the temporary closure of several of its service centers across Punjab as heavy rains and flooding continue to disrupt routine operations.

According to an official statement, the closures are meant to ensure the safety of both staff and citizens. The affected offices include:

  • Hafizabad, Jhang, Layyah, Sargodha, Gujrat, Sialkot, and Depalpur

  • Branches such as Wanike Tarar, Jalalpur Bhattian, 18 Hazari, Ahmad Nagar, Kot Momin, Kari Sharif, Kotli Loharan, Saidpur, and Depalpur

Citizens from these regions have been advised to visit nearby functioning offices for urgent documentation until services are restored. Authorities assured that normal operations will resume once the situation improves.

The floods have been triggered by heavy monsoon rains and water released from India, causing the Ravi, Chenab, and Sutlej rivers to overflow. Officials report:

  • At least 20 people dead

  • Crops and livestock swept away

  • Dozens of villages submerged

In Jhang, a deliberate breach was made near Rawaz Bridge to protect the city from rising floodwaters. Punjab Relief Commissioner Nabeel Javed confirmed evacuations along riverbanks, with administrations in Faisalabad and Jhang on high alert.

The Ravi River surge has flooded villages around Lahore. Residents of Theme Park, Mohlanwal, Mureedwal, Farukhabad, Shafiqabad, Afghan Colony, New Metro City, and Chuhng have been safely evacuated.

Rescue teams are also conducting operations in Talat Park and Babu Sabu, where relief efforts are ongoing.
