Islamabad: Prime Minister (PM) Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on Thursday carried out an aerial survey of flood-affected areas in Punjab to review the ongoing emergency and relief operations.
Before departing, the prime minister received a detailed briefing on the flood situation in Punjab’s rivers and the rescue and relief work currently underway. According to the Prime Minister’s Office, NDMA Chairman Lt Gen Inam Haider also briefed him during the aerial survey about the overall flood emergency across the country.
The prime minister and the chief minister traveled together from Lahore to Narowal, inspecting submerged areas from the air. PM Shehbaz instructed officials to take all necessary preventive and relief measures to protect vulnerable communities.
Officials confirmed that a comprehensive briefing would be presented to both leaders upon their arrival in Narowal, covering the scale of damage and future response plans.
Punjab has been among the hardest-hit provinces in the latest spell of monsoon rains, with several rivers overflowing and thousands of people displaced. Rescue and relief operations are ongoing in multiple districts.
