Sindh May Face Flood Surge of 8 to 11 Lakh Cusecs, We Are Updating Our Resources: CM Sindh

Chief Minister of Sindh, Murad Ali Shah, has issued an alert regarding a major flood that is coming from Punjab, emphasising that resources here are being updated.

During a media briefing, CM Sindh stated that preparations for the floods have been completed. A major flood surge is coming from Punjab, he added. Approximately 360,000 cusecs of water are currently at the Guddu Barrage.

“At the Buloki location, the river flow is accelerating,” the CM said. “There is an extremely high-level flood at the Trimmu Barrage, and the Sutlej at Suleimanki is also witnessing a high-level flood.”

Regarding the Chenab River, he explained that the flood surge will meet the Jhelum at Panjnad and then proceed to Guddu. “We are updating our resources,” he said.

According to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), a flood surge of 800,000 to 1.1 million cusecs may reach Sindh. The CM added that the water level at Trimmu will indicate how much water will enter Sindh.

He warned that the entire Kacha area is at risk of submergence, and residents will be evacuated. “Instructions have been issued to the irrigation department to prepare for a superflood,” Murad Ali Shah said, emphasizing that protecting human lives and livestock is a top priority.

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has 192 boats ready for rescue operations. “We will try to prevent breaches at any point,” he said.

The CM further warned, “If water exceeds 900,000 cusecs, the entire Kacha area will be submerged. We hope water will not exceed 900,000 cusecs.”
