ChatGPT Down as Users Report Outage and Mysterious Non-Response Issues

Popular AI chatbot ChatGPT has been hit by a sudden outage, with thousands of users worldwide reporting that the service has stopped responding to their prompts.

According to monitoring site Down Detector, nearly 1,000 outage reports were logged on Thursday morning as frustrated users rushed to social media to complain.

ChatGPT Stops Responding for Some Users

The issue appears to cause the chatbot to freeze during conversations, leaving users without replies. Many turned to X (formerly Twitter) to vent their concerns.

“ChatGPT is not responding to conversations!” one user wrote.
Another joked: “I’m so sad. My work partner is down.”

Outage Not Widespread Yet

Interestingly, The Sun’s live tests showed ChatGPT functioning normally for some accounts, suggesting the outage could be limited to specific regions or user groups rather than a global failure.

Despite user frustration, OpenAI’s official status page continued to show that systems were “fully operational”, with no recognition of a major outage.

Millions Rely on ChatGPT Daily

ChatGPT has become an essential tool for millions, boasting around 700 million weekly active users. From helping with office reports to planning holidays, the chatbot plays a vital role in both personal and professional life.

The sudden glitch has therefore caused panic among users who depend on the AI for daily tasks.

As of now, OpenAI has not confirmed the cause of the disruption or whether it is investigating the reports.
