Instagram iPad app now available for users globally
After more than 10 years of requests, Instagram has finally released an official iPad app. The company admitted that users have been asking for this for a long time, but said the delay was due to designing a version that works well on larger screens.
What the App Looks Like
The main feed still appears in the center of the screen with wide margins on both sides. Instagram says this is because of the iPad’s unique screen sizes, which are harder to design for compared to iPhones.
When you open the app, it launches straight into Reels, putting short videos at the front. Stories are shown at the top as usual, and messaging is just one tap away.
A new Following tab has also been added with three viewing options:
All: A mix of posts and Reels from accounts you follow plus recommendations.
Friends: Only posts from mutual followers.
Latest: A timeline showing the newest posts in order.
Extra Benefits on iPad
The iPad’s wider display does have one advantage. While watching Reels, you can open the comments section without shrinking the video. This makes it easier to interact while still enjoying full-screen content.
Availability
The Instagram iPad app is now rolling out worldwide for devices running iPadOS 15.1 or newer. The company is also working on a tablet-friendly version for Android, expected to arrive soon.
