Over 100 mm Heavy Rain Predicted in Karachi Today, Urban Flooding Likely
The Meteorological Department has issued a warning about the risk of urban flooding in Karachi today, as the city is expected to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall.
According to meteorologists, four to six spells of rain are likely throughout the day, with some areas potentially receiving more than 100 mm of rain.
This weather is being caused by an unusual system entering Sindh from India in the form of a depression. The path of this system is unclear and complex, which could result in varying intensities of rain across different parts of the city.
Since yesterday, intermittent light to heavy rainfall has continued in Karachi, and complaints of water accumulation in low-lying areas have been reported. A flood situation also developed in the Malir River yesterday, which had remained dry for a long time.
In light of the current conditions, the Meteorological Department and the district administration have appealed to citizens to avoid unnecessary travel, stay away from electric poles, exposed wires, and places with deep water. Citizens are also advised to contact rescue agencies immediately in case of any emergency.
