UN Denounces Attacks on Qatar but Avoids Naming Israel

12 September, 2025 16:59

UNITED NATIONS — The United Nations Security Council condemned the recent strikes on Qatar’s capital, Doha, and called for de-escalation in the region. The statement did not directly name Israel, which carried out the attack.

On Tuesday, Israel launched an unprecedented airstrike in Doha targeting Hamas leaders. Hamas said some of its members were killed, and a Qatari security officer also died.

The Security Council expressed support for Qatar’s sovereignty and called Doha a key mediator in peace talks between Israel and Hamas.

Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed Abdulrahman Al-Thani welcomed the council’s support and said Qatar remains committed to helping end the conflict but warned it will defend its sovereignty.

US officials, while supporting Israel, said the attack on Qatar was “unfortunate” and could hurt peace efforts. The US also stressed that the goal remains to bring hostages home and end the violence.

UN officials warned that the strikes risk escalating the conflict and could threaten peace and stability in the region.
