Arshad Nadeem set for World Athletics Championships 2025 Javelin final

Tokyo, September 18, 2025 – Pakistan’s Olympic champion Arshad Nadeem is set to compete in the final of the Men’s Javelin Throw at the ongoing World Athletics Championships 2025 in Tokyo, Japan.

The final will begin at 3:23 PM (PST) on Thursday. A total of 12 athletes will contest for the gold medal, including world No. 1 Julian Weber from Germany and India’s star thrower Neeraj Chopra.

Throwing Order in Final

According to the start list:

  • Weber will open the final with the first throw.

  • Grenada’s Anderson Peters will follow with the second throw.

  • Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem will take his first throw third.

  • Right after him, Neeraj Chopra will take the fourth throw.

Each finalist will get six throws to decide the winner.

Nadeem’s Journey to the Final

Arshad Nadeem qualified in style. His third and final attempt of 85.28m secured his place in the final. His first two efforts measured 76.99m and 74.17m.

From his qualification group, Anderson Peters (85.96m) and Julius Yego (89.53m) of Kenya also advanced. Curtis Thompson of the USA managed 84.72m to make the cut.

Chopra’s Strong Qualification

India’s Neeraj Chopra, a two-time Olympic medalist, needed just one throw to qualify. He crossed the automatic qualification mark of 84.50m with a first attempt of 84.85m at Tokyo’s National Stadium.

India’s Sachin Yadav missed direct qualification with 83.67m, but still entered the final after the combined results of both groups.

Rivalry and Past Records

The rivalry between Nadeem and Chopra has become one of the biggest stories in world athletics.

  • At the World Championships 2023 in Budapest, Chopra won gold with 88.17m, while Nadeem claimed silver with 87.82m.

  • At the Paris Olympics 2024, the tables turned. Nadeem struck gold with a record-breaking 92.97m throw, while Chopra took silver.

The 28-year-old Nadeem gave Pakistan its first Olympic gold in track and field, creating history for his country.
