Arshad Nadeem’s medal hopes dashed after early exit in final
Arshad Nadeem Qualifies for World Athletics Final with 85.28m Throw
Pakistan’s Olympic hero Arshad Nadeem failed to qualify for the top eight in the men’s javelin throw final at the World Athletics Championships 2025 in Tokyo on Thursday, September 18. His medal dream ended after three attempts that fell short of the mark.
Arshad Nadeem’s First Attempt
Nadeem started the competition with a throw of 82.73 metres. The effort was below his qualification throw of 85.28m, which had earlier secured him a spot in the final.
Neeraj Chopra and Early Leaders
Right after Nadeem, India’s Neeraj Chopra threw 83.65 metres, slightly better than the Pakistani star. Germany’s Julian Weber had already opened the contest with a solid 83.63m, before Anderson Peters of Grenada went ahead with a powerful 84.59m throw.
India’s rising thrower Sachin Yadav shocked everyone in the first round by recording 86.29 metres, which put him in a strong lead.
Nadeem’s Second Attempt
The pressure increased when Nadeem committed a foul on his second throw. After two rounds, he stood at the 10th position overall, outside the cut for the top eight finalists.
Final Attempt Ends Hopes
In his third attempt, Arshad managed 82.75 metres, which was still not enough to qualify. With this, his journey ended in the Tokyo 2025 World Athletics Championships. His medal hopes were dashed, leaving Pakistan’s fans disappointed.
Arshad Nadeem, who won Olympic gold in Paris 2024, could not repeat his magic in Tokyo. His early exit will be remembered as a tough moment in his comeback journey. The final now continues with Neeraj Chopra, Sachin Yadav, Julian Weber, and Anderson Peters fighting for the podium.
